- Time to Exit – what to sell but unsure on how to and realising optimal value
Selection of client outcomes & results in 2023/4:
- Net Profit makes contribution to pay off mortgage ($200k+).
- First overseas Holiday (5 weeks) in 4 years
- Largest income in company history (+43% on 2 years prior)
- Net Profit moves into double figure % for first time.
- Business sold, first overseas holiday in 7 years and retirement home purchased.
- Accessed new overseas markets.
- Record shares in AU retail (Woolworths and Coles)
My work focuses on:
PROFIT – the everyday ‘working’ numbers
- PEOPLE – getting staff aligned and engaged
- PIPE – managing customer engagement
- PRIORITY – ensuring the owner gets support, is heard and has clarity on their future
Examples of ongoing work that I do within clients:
- Create and update business Strategy & Direction – defining, and realising what SUCCESS looks like
- Create, report and update on key financial metrics – Devil is in the detail.
- Define, and improve, Profitability of business.
- Monitor and action decisions that sit below Cost of Sales and Operating Expenditure
- Ongoing accountability (sometimes weekly) for visibility of results including monthly meeting – focused on ACTION.
- Defining and Improving efficiency of business – systems and people
- Accountability and Performance of Staff including managing ‘issues’.

- Customer engagement – content & comms for www, e-mail, Social, Marketing general
- Owner: Acting as a pragmatic sounding board, someone to whinge at, keeping them honest and supporting delivery of their goals

Say Hi to Mike. Here he is in Sicily (September ’23) enjoying his first holiday/extended break in 4 years.
Mike has nurtured a growing technology service business and transitioned from a contract to employee model, he has a team of 7. Breaking away from the business, for 5 weeks, was a major undertaking. We agreed we’d have no contact (apart from1 photo a week) during his absence.
Owners are often ‘the’ business and it takes step change activities, such as was Mike did, to truly get ‘under the hood’ and effect evolution to benefit Owner, Staff and Customers. His break resulted in a 9-point program to build more growth and profitability (in the business) and a 4-point program focused on him.

Kath established and grew, for 20 years, the leading dog grooming business in Auckland. Her business achieved the highest net promoter score (index for referral) I have seen. She navigated all the commercial challenges thrown at her/the business via the pandemic and then decided it was time to put herself first.

Taking myself on….what I learnt from Boxing.
In 2023 I took a major step out of comfort zone and competed into 2 fights (in front of a crowd).
I’d resisted for some time because I was fearful of ‘demons’ (bullying and other situations that I’d not dealt with) from the past rising, they did and I nearly quit.
I’ve learnt so much and feel the ‘ring’ represents the environment my clients operate in.

- You must keep training, learning and be in action
- It’s far more than just technique and skill, it’s about heart and brain
- Be willing to get in the ring and compete
- Use your ‘jab’ to stay relevant and stay in the fight
- Challenge your energy, be willing to empty the tank…..and go again
- You must be precise/have intent amidst the ‘noise’ and distractions
- Support/guidance makes a huge difference
